I recently read Working in the Dark: Reflections of a Poet of the Barrio by Jimmy Santiago Baca for a class, and will be adding it to the Coffee Pages location in SPoT in the next few weeks. It's a lovely mesh of poetry and autobiography and social commentary, mostly focusing on the author's experiences teaching himself to read and write while in prison, and his love of poetry. The poetic language is beautiful, but the book overall feels a bit disorganized and lengthy for the point the author is making. Still, I would suggest this book to those who have the time to explore the wonderfully written musings of a poet.
